What is Unshaved Hair Transplant?

In a standard MicroFUE procedure, the donor area at the back of the scalp is shaved to allow precise graft extraction. In the unshaved technique, we skip this step. Instead, only the individual hair follicles selected for transplantation are micro-trimmed — the surrounding hair remains at its original length throughout.

This is technically more demanding, as our surgeons must work around your existing hair to extract and implant each graft. However, the result is a completely discreet procedure — no one will see a shaved patch, and your hair will look normal (with only minor redness that fades within a week) immediately after the procedure.

Unshaved hair transplant is particularly popular among women, executives, teachers, performers, and anyone who cannot or prefers not to take extended leave from their professional or social life.

Perfect For

  • Women with thinning hair
  • Professionals & executives
  • People valuing discretion
  • Patients with hair loss anxiety
  • Those returning to work quickly
  • Anyone avoiding 'the transplant look'

Same MicroFUE Standards

Unshaved procedures use identical 0.6–0.8mm micro punch tools, needle-free anesthesia, and follow the same sterile JCI-accredited protocol as all our hair transplants. There is no compromise on results.

Benefits

6 Advantages of Unshaved Transplant

1

No Shaving Required

Your existing hair length is preserved throughout the entire procedure. No one — colleagues, family, or friends — will need to know you had a hair transplant.

2

Immediate Social Return

Because there is no shaved head to explain or hide, you can return to your social and professional life as soon as the initial redness fades — often within 5–7 days.

3

Ideal for Women

Female hair transplant patients almost universally prefer the unshaved technique, as shaving the head is socially and psychologically challenging. We specialise in female hair restoration.

4

Same MicroFUE Quality

The unshaved technique uses the exact same 0.6–0.8mm micro punch technology as our standard MicroFUE. Quality, graft survival rates, and final results are identical.

5

Discreet & Private

Many patients value their privacy. The unshaved procedure allows you to undergo surgery and recover without any outward sign that a procedure has taken place.

6

Needle-Free Anesthesia Included

Like all our procedures, unshaved transplants are performed under our FDA-approved needle-free anesthesia system for a completely pain-free experience.

How It Works

The Unshaved Procedure Step by Step

1

Consultation & Planning

Our surgeon designs the hairline and plans the procedure around your existing hair length. Sections of donor hair are identified that can be extracted without leaving a visible gap.

2

Targeted Micro-Shaving

Only the specific follicles selected for extraction are individually trimmed using micro-scissors. Surrounding hair remains at full length, concealing the work area during and after the procedure.

3

Graft Extraction

Using 0.6–0.8mm micro punch tools, grafts are extracted one by one. Your longer surrounding hair naturally covers the extraction sites as they heal.

4

Channel Creation & Implantation

Micro-channels are opened in the recipient zone at the natural hair growth angle. Harvested grafts are carefully implanted to blend seamlessly with your existing hair.

5

Recovery & Follow-Up

The treated areas are gently washed on day 2. Most patients find their existing hair masks any visible redness or crusting within a week. Twelve-month online follow-up is included.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

QIs the result the same as standard MicroFUE?

Yes — the final result is identical. The only difference is in how the donor grafts are harvested. We trim individual hairs rather than shaving entire sections, leaving your hair length intact. Graft quality and survival rates are the same.

QDoes unshaved transplant take longer?

Yes, slightly. The careful micro-trimming and more precise extraction process adds approximately 1–2 hours to the total procedure time compared to a standard MicroFUE session.

QCan I get unshaved transplant if I have long hair?

Yes — unshaved transplant is actually most popular among patients with longer hair. The surrounding hair naturally conceals donor extraction sites and any post-procedure redness, making the recovery far more discreet.

QHow many grafts can be transplanted without shaving?

For most patients, we can safely transplant 1,500–3,000 grafts using the unshaved technique. This is sufficient for frontal zone restoration, hairline lowering, and medium-density crown coverage. Very large sessions (4,000+ grafts) may require partial shaving.

QIs it more expensive than standard MicroFUE?

There is a small additional cost due to the extra time and precision required. During your consultation we will provide an exact quote based on your hair profile and the graft count required.

QAre women good candidates for unshaved hair transplant?

Absolutely. The unshaved technique was developed largely with female patients in mind. Women experiencing diffuse thinning, hairline recession, or localised baldness are excellent candidates, and the procedure can be done without any visible sign of surgery.
